Hi. My name is Richard Rudolph, and I’m a trust
attorney in Newport Beach, California, and I’m a partner of Rudolph & Chonoles. Let’s see if we can shake off the anxiety. First, take a deep breath. Relax. It’s all going to be fine. The first question we ask is, are you a candidate
for a trust? Do you have children? Do you have a home? Do you have assets over $150,000 in value? If you’ve answered yes on any of those questions,
then you probably are a candidate. Stick around. Second, you need to select the right attorney. You need someone who has experience. You want to talk to someone who is going to
explain every step of the process for you, because most of my clients experience that
they don’t really know what they need. They don’t even know what they want sometimes,
until after they’ve spoken with a lawyer. You want to find someone who has a good reputation. A good reputation means happy clients. Translation: good reviews. You want to be very careful to ensure that
you find someone you’re comfortable talking with. You’re going to sit down and discuss very
personal and private family issues, so you want to make sure you’re comfortable having
an open conversation. Third, compile your financial records. Consider a plan. Ask yourself what is it you’re trying to accomplish
by setting up your trust? Are you looking to provide for young children? Are you trying to protect an estate for a
special needs child? Are you trying to preserve a family home for
an aging spouse? Whatever it is you’re attempting to do, including
these types of things, you can do these things through a trust. Consider your plan. Finally, follow through. Make the appointment and show up. If you’ve selected right, your attorney is
going to guide you through all the rest. Good luck, and thanks for watching.
