To be charged with a federal offense means,
at first, what most people think it means. Money laundering, Enron, terrorism, all of
the things that you see on TV. But regular, ordinarily law abiding citizens
can easily find themselves being charged in federal court by doing the simple act of speeding
on the GW Parkway. Any offense that’s committed within the confines
of a federal enclave, which is federal property that’s owned within a state’s property, will
have to be tried in federal court. It’s going to be a very different experience
and process than that which you would experience if you were charged with a crime in state
court. The procedures are different, the punishments
are different, the players are different. It’s an entirely different scenario. You need to find an attorney who’s well versed
and well practiced in federal law and federal procedure.
