Hey this is Lizzy from Senator Steiner Hayward’s
office, how are you? This is a unique program. This is not an opportunity that most community
college students get to have. The PCC Legislative Internship Program is
critical. Those interns that we get from PCC can come
in and really learn from the ground up how their government works. Students get to see how a bill is made they
get to see how the different legislators work together. They might research history on a bill. I may have them go and talk to other legislators
about their support for the bill. It helps me expand the number of people looking
at different issues. PCC interns have been here going to committee
meetings that I can’t go to, giving me data about what they’re seeing and doing some research
on some of the issues. That’s exactly what I’ve needed. My journey started exactly where you are right
now and I now, fast forward, I serve as the assistant director of government relations
for Portland State University. This is your government, you know, we are
truly of the people by the people for the people. There are bills out there that have the mark
of a PCC intern. They’re working in the State Legislature,
they’re making a huge contribution. Come on in, see how it works, find out that
you can come and make a difference and support our government into the future.
