Now, over at the National Assembly, …
lawmakers from the main opposition Liberty Korea Party are on standby around-the-clock
to try to prevent any attempts by the ruling Democratic Party and other minor opposition
parties to put key reform bills on fast-track. Two parliamentary committees on Friday attempted
to fast track four bills,… including one on electoral reform,… and another to create
an independent body to investigate corruption among high ranking public officials — but
failed on fierce resistance from the Liberty Korea Party. The conservative party says the election law
has always been revised based on bipartisan agreement,… but the four parties agreed
on the fast-track move, as parliament has to finalize the electoral map ahead of next
year’s general elections. The Liberty Korea Party also staged a demonstration
in central Seoul this afternoon to protest the fast-track move.
