((THIS IS NEWS 4 AT 10)) GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. THERE’S A NEW PUSH TO KEEP YOU KIDS SAFE NEAR THE SCHOOL BUS – LAWMAKERS SAY THEY’VE REACHED A DEAL TO GET CAMERAS ON SCHOOL BUSES ALL ACROSS THE STATE…NEWS 4’S MARLEE TUSKES SHOWS US HOW THIS WILL HELP POLICE ENFORCE THE LAW. DON, SCHOOL DISTRICTS COULD SOON HAVE THE OPTION TO OPT INTO A PROGRAM WHICH WOULD ADD CAMERAS ON THE ARM OF A SCHOOL BUS WHEN IT’S STOPPED. THE GOAL IS TO CATCH DRIVERS WHO DON’T STOP WHEN A BUS HAS ITS LIGHTS ON. LOCAL POLICE OFFICERS SAY THIS PROPOSAL WILL BE A HUGE HELP WHEN IT COMES O ENFORCING THIS LAW. ACCORDING TO CITY OF TONAWANDA POLICE CAPTIAN FREDERIC FOELS, THE ONLY WAY POLICE OFFICERS CAN ENFORCE DRIVERS THAT FAIL TO STOP FOR BUSES IS IF THEY WITNESS IT. ((THE OFFICER HAS TO BE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY AND OBSERVE IT HIMSELF TO ACTUALLY WRITE A SUMMONS SO EITHER HE’S FOLLOWING THE BUS OR IN A FIXED LOCATION WATCHING THE BUS.)) NOW STATE LAWMAKERS ARE LOOKING TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE – CREATING A DEAL TO ALLOW SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO ADD CAMERAS THAT WOULD BE MOUNTED TO THE STOP-ARM ON A BUS. WHEN IT SWINGS OUT, IT WOULD ACTIVATE WHEN A DRIVER FAILS TO STOP. THE DISTRICT WOULD THEN BE ABLE TO SEND THAT EVIDENCE TO LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. ((ACROSS THE STATE, THERE ARE 50,000 CARS THAT MAKE A CONSCIOUS DECISION TO BREAK THE LAW, TO PASS STOPPED SCHOOL BUSES AS THEY’RE TRANSPORTING OUR CHILDREN AND PUT OUR CHILDREN’S LIVES AT RISK EACH AND EVERY DAY.)) THESE CAMERAS CAN COST UP TO SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. LEGISLATORS ARE LOOKING INTO WAYS TO SAVE THE SCHOOLS AND MUNICIPALITIES FROM HAVING TO PAY. BUT FOELS SAYS AT ITS CORE, THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. ((THEN IT’S JUST THE MATTER OF THE MECHANICS OF IT AS FAR AS THE PURCHASE OF THE ACTUAL EQUIPMENT AND THE FINE AND THE VIEWING AND THE WHOLE THING. SO I’M SURE THERE’S A FEW MORE DETAILS THAT WE REALLY DON’T KNOW ABOUT BUT THE BASIC CONCEPT OF IT – TO HAVE A CAMERA ON THAT ARM WHEN IT SWINGS OUT IS A GREAT TOOL FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT.)) THIS PROPOSAL WOULD ALSO INCREASE FINES FOR DRIVERS WHO BREAK THIS LAW – A FIRST OFFENSE COSTS 250 DOLLARS, ADDITIONAL OFFENSES ARE 300 DOLLARS. THE LEGISLATION CURRENTLY AWAITS THE SIGNATURE OF GOVERNOR CUOMO

I wonder who the company is that sells all of this shit. Block bars on the front. They made so much money from front swing out stop signs that they installed rear stop signs. Then there's the little $10,000.00 flashing white light on the top. Then we coat the roofs of the buses with white reflector film. All retrofit kits costing 70% more than if purchased as a package, new. Now camera's on the swing out signes front. How long until we need them on the rear as well? Why stop there? We need to retrofit phone and game chargers for each seat and monitors for each seat like the airlines have. It's all big money. I'd love to follow the money and see what politishit or beaurocrat is making the money.
