I wanted to go to law school because I really
admired attorneys that I had been working for. I kinda grew up in a courtroom. When I was 16 years old I started working
at the public defender’s office during the summers and then I started also working at
district attorney’s offices and I would vary it during different summers. So I saw cases being tried, I saw people being
taken care of, victims having their damages taken care of and receiving justice and I
felt really good about the system. Well I grew up in the country and we were
on a farm, a large farm, and my grandparents had an attorney who was a very well known
attorney without going into politics he ended up being governer of North Carolina at one
one point. And that had a big bearing on me. My grandparents raised me basically and they
looked up so well to their law firm and that was always an esteemed position within our
family and we would dress up and go downtown and you know I remember my grandmother would
put on her white gloves with her purse and I rememberI was walking down the sidewalks
in our town going to the courthouse and lawyer’s offices and that was a big deal. I always thought well you know lawyers can
do good things for people. They have a lot of power, it’s true. You’re a sworn officer of the court. A lot of people don’t realize that. But the idea and your oath is that you do
good to people, do good things for people. I like to try and do the best we can from
clients once we’ve taken them on its like we feel very close to our clients.
