A year since the establishment
of the Maori Statutory Board as a part of the
Auckland City Council, and Chairman David Taipari
says it won’t be long before we see the
fruits of their labour. Maori have a special place in influencing the Auckland
City Council’s decisions. David Taipari, chair of
the Maori Statutory Board spoke in defence of John Tamihere
after he was rejected in his attempt to speak
at a board meeting between the strategy team and
the finance committee this week. Because of this, the statutory
board met to resolve the issue. David says that
it’s been a hard year, but they continue to move forward. They hope that with discussions, the New Year may see a new
era and a new strategy ushered in for Auckland
Maori residents. Irena Smith, Te Karere.
