and this legislative session is in the final stretch with less than two weeks to go some big items still on the agenda are Allison Zimmerman tracting it all tonight she’s in studio with an update Allison family leave and free full-day kindergarten as well as some of those bills relating to lowering the cost of health care but we’ve still seen several other bills passed through that were made a priority at the start of the session if you’re a Democrat overall you’re pretty happy with how the legislative session is gone obviously if you’re a Republican you weren’t terribly happy about it but they’ve accomplished a lot of their legislative priorities less than two weeks in this legislative session which comes on the heels of Governor poulos’s first 100 days you have to capitalize on that momentum that you have coming into office with a full Democratic majority we’ve seen some controversial bills make it in the hands of the governor including the national popular vote red flag and the oil and gas laws the Democrats have obviously done many of the things that they’ve wanted to do the Colorado Legislature is no stranger to passing policy in the final days and there’s still time for lawmakers to fulfill some of poulos’s campaign promises we have constraints obviously on the Legislature’s ability to increase revenue you know they can’t increase taxes because of Tabor so I think that those are the things that are really frustrating the polis and the Democratic Party right now which include funding full-day kindergarten now the governor already approved the money but a bill still needs the Legislature’s approval and in one of Paulus’s plans he laid out in the State of the State this year paid family leave is something lawmakers are working to get done before the session ends and this gives you a general idea of what we can expect as we’ve seen bills were just introduced last week which isn’t uncommon there are a few more bills related to affordable health care promise still making their way through the legislature including a bill to import prescription drugs from Canada always watching out for you southern Colorado Allison Zimmerman news 5 Alice
