BRIAN:..THE DEBATE ABOUT GUNS AND THE GOVERNMENT IS AGAIN TAKING CENTER STAGE IN LANSING. 3 LAWMAKERS ARE NOW DEBATING WHETHER TO REMOVE PARTS OF STATE LAW THAT REQUIRE GUN OWNERS TO HAVE A SPECIAL LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED PISTOL.CRITICS SAY IT COMPROMISES SAFETY — WHILE PROPONENTS SAY IT GIVES GUN OWNERS FREEDOMS THEY DESERVE.. 3 24 HOUR NEWS EIGHT’S LEON HENDRIX IS ON THE STORY TONIGHT… 3 THE PROPOSED LAW COULD GET A VOTE ON THE HOUSE FLOOR THIS WEEK…. BUT THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE MIGHT COME IN GETTING THE GOVERNOR TO SIGN OFF ON IT…. 3 3 LEON HENDRIX REPORTING: AS THE LAW STANDS TODAY — GUN OWNERS CAN CARRY THEIR WEAPONS VISIBLY IN MOST PUBLIC PLACES WITH NO SPECIAL LICENSING…BUT WHEN IT COMES TO HIDING A LOADED WEAPON ON YOUR PERSON OR CARRYING IT INSIDE OF A CAR THERE ARE REGULATIONS….THE CONCEALED WEAPON HOLDER IS REQUIRED TO CARRY A CONCEALD PISTOL LICENSE….C-P-L….AND GO THROUGH THE SPECIAL CLASS TO GET ONE…..THAT REQUIREMENT WOULD GO AWAY UNDER THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION FOR CARRYING CONCEALED IN MOST PLACES….TOM LAMBERT / PRESIDENT, MICHIGAN OPEN CARRY // (( WHAT THIS LEGISLATION DOES IS IT OPENS UP THE OPTIONS FOR THEM. ))LEON: BUT HISTORY TELLS US THE LAW MAY FACE AN UPHILL BATTLE WHEN IT COMES TO GOVERNOR RICK SNYDER…. HE HAS USED HIS VETO POWER IN THE PAST TO STOP LAWS THAT LOOSEN GUN CONTROL. HE DID HOWEVER SUPPORT A CHANGE IN LAW THAT GOT RID OF GUN BOARDS THAT REVIEWED CPL LICENSE APPLICATIONS….BUT THAT WAS ONLY AFTER INITALLY VETOING THE LAW…TOM LAMBERT / PRESIDENT, MICHIGAN OPEN CARRY // (( PEOPLE WILL OFTEN FIND OUT THAT IT DOESN’T MATTER WHETHER YOU HAVE AN R OR A D BEHIND YOUR NAME IT MATTERS ABOUT A LOT OF OTHER THINGS. ))CHARISSE MITCHELL / CEO, YWCA WEST CENTRAL MICHIGAN // ((I THINK IT JUST INCREASES THE RISK UNNECESSARILY. ))LEON: CRITICS SAY THE PROPOSED LAW PRESENTS A SAFETY CONCERN….CHARISSE MITCHELL / CEO, YWCA WEST CENTRAL MICHIGAN // (( WE KNOW THAT HAVING REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENCES IS NO GUARNTEE THAT VIOLENCE WON’T OCCUR – THAT A WEAPON WON’T BE USED IN A HOMICIDE BUT WE ALSO KNOW THAT NOT HAVING THOSE KINDS OF PROTECTIONS AND SECURITY CHECKS JUST INCREASES THE RISK. ))LEON: PROPONENTS DISAGREE….THEY SAY THE PROPOSED LAW ONLY MAKES IT EASIER FOR GUN OWNERS TO EXCERCISE THEIR RIGHTS TO CARRY….TOM LAMBERT / PRESIDENT, MICHIGAN OPEN CARRY // (( ALL OF THE ARGUING, ALL OF THE DISCUSSION IS COMPLETELY IRRELAVENT TO THE PERSON WHO NEEDS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES HERE AND NOW. )) 3 THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE TOLD US TODAY THAT SNYDER HAS NOT YET TAKEN A POSITION ON THE PROPOSED LAW.THE BILL HAS TO GET THROUGH THE HOUSE AND SENATE AND COULD LOOK DIFFERENT IF AND WHEN WHEY MAKE IT TO THE GOVERNOR’S DESK. IT’S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THIS LAW WOULD NOT GET RID OF C-P-LS ALTOGETHER…. THE LICENSE WOULD STILL BE REQUIRED TO CARRY IN SOME LOCATIONS… SOME WOULD STILL WANT TO GET A C-P-L TO ASSURE THEY CAN CARRY CONCEALED WHERE A LICENSE IS REQUIRED ACROSS STATE LINES. 3 3

I don't mind keeping the class a requirement for first time gun buyers, but we should do way with the license b.s.

Schneider your law if you don't pass the bill that will allow United States citizens to exercise or 2nd amendment to carry or conceal without permit. If you don't boat up on it you're not holding up your constitutional Promise. You're not gonna stop me or law abiding citizens I shouldn't have to say law abiding your American citizen either way no matter what you say or do this doco stop American people from their guns as we had to 2nd minute rights you can't take that away don't you think about it it's that up to you you're not God don't act like it signed a bill making it legal would you already is I should have to say that I then go sit down and do something else leave the constitutionnel loan were not go up by I'd buy unlawful acts

it also costs lots of money to take the classes and pay the fees 450 to 700 bucks. so the law will make it so low income legal gun owners who can not afford all that have the same rights and ability to carry for defence and protection of the community. as a person with a higher income that can afford all that… legal gun owners will be able to carry in low income high crime areas where the good guys with a gun is needed most it is a great law and if it passes this last step a great victory for the constitution

The 2nd amendment of the US constitution is a conceal carry permit. At least that's how it should be.
Criminals don't care about permits. Why should the law abiding be the only ones being restricted?

In the late 70's, I walked around Grand Rapids, Michigan, carrying a 12gauge shotgun on my back. I was 19yrs old. I walked from the west side to downtown, and didn't get stopped by police until I was in the middle of town. They asked me to lay my gun on the ground, I said No, but I will put it on your car. Which I did. They took my ID and ran a check on me. They asked why I was walking around with a loaded shotgun on me, and I said because I can! " I'm exercising my right to keep and bare arms,.. I'm not threatening anyone, I'm being peaceful." The one cop tried to tell me that I couldn't walk around armed with a shotgun. But his partner said that yes I can, that the second amendment allows me to be as armed as I feel the need to be. After about 20 minutes, and a bunch of bullshit from the idiot cop, I finally said that they need to either arrest me, or let me go. By then thier supervisor finally showed up, listened to everyone's story,… And gave me my ID back, and said that I can leave. He said, loud enough for the entire small crowd that had gathered around to hear, that every citizen has the right to keep and bare arms, as long as you legally can. And I legally can. So, I took my stuff and walked away. In fact, I went to the Zoo, and they actually let me walk around the park carrying my shotgun. I didn't threaten anyone, in fact the staff only asked why I was carrying a shotgun around, and I told them that I wanted to prove to people that everyone can carry a gun, as long as you legally can. And as long as you don't threaten anyone, you shouldn't be hassled.
