PRISON FOR HIS ROLE IN THE DEATH OF HIS STEPSON… HAD HIS SENTENCE CHOPPED IN HALF. NINE-YEAR-OLD OMAREE VARELA DIED IN 2013. HIS MOTHER SYNTHIA VARELA KICKED HIM TO DEATH. STEPHEN CASAUS WAS ORIGINALLY CONVICTED OF CHILD ABUSE RESULTING IN DEATH FOR (NOT CALLING 9-1-1 AND SENTENCED TO 30 YEARS. THAT WAS OVERTURNED LAST YEAR WHEN A COURT RULED THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THE BOY WOULD HAVE SURVIVED EVEN IF CASAUS HAD CALLED 911. TODAY… A JUDGE REDUCED HIS SENTENCE TO 14-AND A HALF YEARS.
