Monsieur LaPadite, are you aware of the nickname the people of france have given me? I have no interests in such things. But you are aware of what they call me? I’m aware. What are you aware of? That they call you the Jew hunter. Precisely I understand your trepudation and repeating it. Heydrich apparently hates the moniker the good people of Prague have bestowed upon him. Actually, why he would hate the name “The Hangman” is baffling to me. It would appear he has done everything in his power to earn it. Now I, on the other hand, love my unofficial title precisely because I’ve earned it. The feature that makes me such an effective hunter of the Jews is, As opposed to most German soldiers, I can think like a Jew. Where they can only think like a German. (CHUCKLING) More precisely, a german soldier. Now, if one were to determine what attribute the German people share with a beast, It would be the cunning and the predetory instinct of a hawk. But if one were to determine what attributes the Jews share with the beast, It would be that of the rat. The Führer and Goebbels’ have said pretty much the same thing But where our conclusions differ, Is that I don’t consider the comparison an insult. Consider for a moment the world a rat lives in. It’s a hostile world, indeed. If a rat were to scamper through your front door, right now, Would you greet it with hostility? I suppose I would. Has a rat ever done anything to create this animosity you feel toward them? Rats spread disease. They bite people. Rats were the cause of the bubonic plague, but that’s some time ago. I propose to you any disease a rat could spread, A squirrel could equally carry. Would you agree? (AGREES IN FRENCH) Yet, I assume you don’t share the same animosity with squirrels that you do with rats, do you? No. Yet, they are both rodents, are they not? And except for the tail, they do even rather look alike, don’t they? It’s an interesting thought, Herr Colonel. However interesting as the thought may be, It makes not one bit of difference to how you feel. If a rat were to walk in here, right now, as I’m talking Would you greet it with a saucer of your delicious milk? Probably not. I didn’t think so. You don’t like them. You don’t really know why you don’t like them. All you know is you find them repulsive. Consequently, a German soldier conducts a search of house suspected of hiding Jews. Where does the hawk look? He looks in the barn, he looks in the attic, he looks in the cellar, He looks everywhere he would hide. But there are so many places it would never occur to a hawk to hide. However, the reason the Führer has brought me of my alps in Austria and placed me in French cow country is because it does occur to me. Because I’m aware what tremendous feats human are capable of once they abandon dignity.

"However the reason the Führer brought me from my Alps in Austria and placed me in French cow country…" He's being really passive-aggressive. And who could blame him? You're yodeling your lungs out in the Alps with the perchts and enjoying life and someone tells you you've been assigned to a task in a different country that doesn't even have mountains. Only thing worse would've been if he got sent to Rommel's Africa campaign to sniff out Jews there. "I left my Alps for the desert and sandstorms? If there are no Jews here I'll goddamn round up people and convert them to Judaism myself just to make my quota and get out of here! Austrian Alps rule!"

Well deserved oscar by Christoph Waltz. This guy is awesome.

  • Torgrim Vinter Post author

Actually, Heydrich was quite popular in Prague. 30 000 Czechs met up at Wenceslas square to protest his murder in 1942. Not that a hack like Tarantino would know – or care – about such facts. This movie is so completely fiction that they should have just used other names to avoid confusing people.

Chapter One of this film is the only compelling chapter in this otherwise messy, soulless narrative. How people genuinely think this is his best film is baffling to me. His three perfect films are Jackie Brown, KB, and Death Proof – interestingly when he has a female protagonist he allows the story to breathe with a more genuine humanity. (5/6/19)

  • Daniel Sacilotto Post author

There is an possible incoherency in the script. Landa later says to Aldo that he hates his nickname. A possibility is that this is deliberate, and that we don't know what Landa really thinks, since he is always playing his audience for a purpose, in this case for intimidation, in the other for cutting a deal. I suppose that is the most reasonable hypothesis, but I might be overreading.

  • La Porta D Post author

You know, I know Tarantino has n answer for everything and he's (obviously) like a 165 IQ, legit. But he needs to stop making them so damned violent. The stories, the direction the dialogue, the character arcs. It's all great until you see someones head rolling on the floor.

I don't know how any can dislike jewish elite when they: push for massive invasion of Euruope, create porn aimed to degraded white people, blackwash all our Europeans stories.. from Witcher, to Ariel, Thor and many many more. Rule the media and undermine countries pushing for ideas of multiculturalism. Spread LBTQ and try to divide the family culture, own the national banks and keep people in debt…. occupy Palestine and kill kids with firebombing, orchestre the collapse of world trade center and so on.
They got kicked out of every nation they lived… I wonder why… it must be their looks right.. yeah .. sure.

What I find interesting about Landa is that with the opening scene, you almost get the impression that he knows what he does is awful, be he doesn't care. He wants to do evil and Nazism is a fine way of doing it.
