STORY. JUST A WEEK AFTER A LAW FIRM UNVEILED THE NAMES OF 13 PRIESTS IN BUFFALO CONVICTED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING CHILDREN — THE BUFFALO CATHOLIC DIOCESE RELEASES ITS OWN LIST. BUFFALO BISHOP RICHARD MALONE HAS FACED MOUNTING PRESSURE TO RELEASE THE NAMES. THIS IS A LOOK AT THE LIST OF THE 42 PRIESTS WHO ARE ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING CHILDREN. NEWS 4’S RACHELE MONGIOVI IS HEARING FROM THE ERIE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY TONIGHT — AS HE CALLS FOR AN END TO THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS ON PROSECUTION. RACHELE? DON AND JACQUIE…. RIGHT NOW THERE ARE NO ACTIVE CASES IN ERIE COUNTY. THE DA SAYS– IF THERE WAS ANY ABUSE TO A CHILD UNDER 13…AFTER 2006– HE WANTS VICTIMS TO COME FORWARD…. SHE SAYS IT CAN BE HEALING FOR THEM TO COME FORWARD. (( THEIR STUMBLING BLOCK IS THEY’VE KEPT IS SECRET FOR SO LONG AND THE ANGER IS FESTERING INSIDE OF THEM QUINN SAYS FINDING A GOOD COUNSELOR AND TALKING WITH OTHER VICTIMS IS IMPORTANT…AS WELL AS…FINDING A LAWYER FOR COMPENSATION. (( THEY HAVE CREDIBILITY NOW, THEY NEVER HAD CREDIBILITY BEFORE OR PEOPLE WOULD SAY WHY DON’T YOU GET OVER IT, IF YOU’RE HOLDING IT INSIDE YOU, YOU CAN’T GET OVER IT THEIR WHOLE LIFE WAS CHANGED THEY NEED COMPENSATION THE DIOCESE SAYS ALL BISHOPS IN THE STATE SUPPORT EXTENDING THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS. BUT…THE CATHOLIC CHURCH OPPOSES PAST VICTIMS SEEKING LEGAL RECOURSE FOR ONE YEAR AFTER ITS SIGNED INTO LAW. MANY OFFICIALS AND CHILD ADVOCATES BELIEVE THERE ARE MORE PRIESTS IN THE
