WELCOME TO ALL HANDS UPDATE, I’M PETTY OFFICER
JONATHAN PANKAU. SAILORS ABOARD USS CONSTITUTION BEGAN THE
ANNUAL CHIEF PETTY OFFICER HERITAGE WEEKS, AUGUST 18TH. MORE THAN 300 CHIEF SELECTS AND MENTORS FROM
THE FLEET WILL REPORT TO THE SHIP DURING THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. THE FIRST GROUP ARRIVED THIS WEEK AND BEGAN
TEAM BUILDING EXERCISES, HERITAGE AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING TO PREPARE THEM FOR LIFE AS CHIEF
PETTY OFFICERS. THE TWO-WEEK TRAINING WILL INCLUDE SAIL TRAINING,
GUN DRILLS AND BOARDING PIKE DRILLS TAUGHT BY USS CONSTITUTION SAILORS. THE CHIEF SELECTS WILL ALSO GET UNDERWAY WITH
OLD IRONSIDES IN THE BOSTON HARBOR, AUGUST 22ND THROUGH 29TH. THIS WILL BE THE LAST CPO HERITAGE WEEKS WITH
CONSITUTION PIERSIDE UNTIL 2018. THE SHIP IS SCHEDULED TO ENTER DRY-DOCK FOR
A THREE YEAR MAINTENANCE PERIOD IN EARLY 2015. THE SHIP WILL STILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
FOR TOURS DURING REGULAR VISITING HOURS DURING THE CPO HERITAGE WEEKS.
